Saxophone Audition Requirements:
 

Undergraduate:

  1. Be prepared to play all 12 major scales full range.
  2. Perform two contrasting etudes or selections from solo repertoire of your choice. Appropriate sources include 48 Studies by Ferling (arr. Mule), Aria by Eugene Bozza, Chanson et Passepied by Jeanine Rueff, 15 Concert Etudes by Charles Koechlin, Sonata by Paul Creston, Scaramouche by Darius Milhaud, Tableaux de Provence by Paule Maurice, Concerto by Alexander Glazounov, etc.

Graduate:

  1. Be prepared to play all major and harmonic scales full range. Major scales in broken thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, and sevenths are ideal but not required.
  2. Perform 45-60 minutes of solo repertoire of your choice. Appropriate examples include Sonata by William Albright, Sequenza VIIb and IXb by Luciano Berio, Tre Pezzi and Maknongan by Giacinto Scelsi, Rhapsodie by Claude Debussy, Fantasia by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Elegie et Rondeau by Karel Husa, Prelude, Cadence et Finale by Desenclos, etc.
