Biography

Eike Gunnarson is College Track Instructor of Functional Piano and Applied Voice. Prior to receiving her bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Texas, Ms Gunnarson studied voice in Germany with renowned Soprano Brigitta Seidler-Winkler. Her master's degree was obtained at NMSU under Dr. Martha Rowe. 

She has sung in operas such as Le Nozze di FigaroTurandotSamson and Delilah, and Romeo et Juliette. She participated in El Paso Opera Company's outreach program production of Hansel and Gretel in the role of Hansel. 

Ms Gunnarson has sung extensive Spanish repertoire, such as Boleros and Zarzuelas, allowing her the opportunity to sing in Mexico as La Antonelli in El Duo de la Africana. Other Zarzuelas include Agua, Azucarillos y Aguardientes in which she sang Manuela as well as Luisa Fernanda for which she was coached by New York-based conductor and pianist Pablo Zinger. She appeared in Spanish repertoire concert series in collaboration with Talento Bilingue de Houston and Opera in the Heights. 

She can be heard in Zarzuela, an episode of the cultural radio program Front Row, in which she sings boleros and selections from Luisa Fernanda. For several years she was the solo vocalist of Las Cruces chamber ensemble Border Baroque. 

Ms Gunnarson has been teaching voice for over 25 years, and is familiar with various vocal styles, including classical, music theater, and gospel, and specializes in French, Italian, and German diction. She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda American Music Honor Society
