Choirs

New Mexico State University provides students opportunities in and out of the classroom to grow as a singer and as a member of a larger community.  The ensembles vary in time commitment and are open to university students from all majors.  Whether you are a beginning singer or one with a wealth of experiences we welcome you to join us! If you have any questions, contact Dr. Jake Taylor, Director of Choral Studies, at taylorjc@nmsu.edu.
 

University Singers (MUSC 2120.M02; MUSC 368.M01)

University Singers is an advanced mixed ensemble of 16-24 members performing music from a broad spectrum of choral repertoire. University Singers maintains an active performance schedule, frequently performing at events on campus and throughout the community. The choir has been invited to perform at the Southwestern Division Conference of the American Choral Directors Association on three different occasions and has participated in international performance tours of Spain, Germany, Austria, England, and Italy. Membership in University Singers requires an audition and is open to all NMSU students.

Concert Choir (MUSC 2120.M03; MUSC 361.M01)

Concert Choir provides students with opportunities to perform a diverse range of choral music. The choir consists of two sections: Treble Chorus and Tenor/Bass Chorus. These sections meet simultaneously, allowing for exploration of traditional mixed, women’s, and men’s repertoire. In addition to formal concert engagements, Concert Choir occasionally performs at various university and community events. Enrollment is open to all NMSU students, and no audition is required--just sign up and come sing!

Masterworks Chorus 

Relaunching in Spring 2022. Stay tuned for exciting developments!

 

The Masterworks Chorus provides students, faculty, and members of the greater Las Cruces Community with opportunities to perform large-scale monuments of the choral repertoire. Recent performances have included the Requiem settings of Mozart and Verdi, and the chorus frequently collaborates with other local groups such as the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra and the New Horizons Symphony. Rehearsals for the Masterworks Chorus are held on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 pm in the NMSU Choir Room. Membership is open to the entire Las Cruces community.
