In addition to teaching and mentoring students and presenting dozens of free concerts throughout the academic year, faculty members of the NMSU Music Department, are consistently acknowledged for their musicianship and contributions to music education.

Dr. Yoshiko Arahata, Theory/Collaborative Piano, recently participate in the 9th Annual Collaborative Piano Conference by International Keyboard Collaborative Arts Society. At the conference she was selected to present on "The Pianist's Guide to Collaboration with Dance” and led a panel discussion on "Dance Panel and Interactive Session."

An experienced adjudicator, Dr. Arahata was invited to adjudicate the Piano Honors Audition at Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico. She was also invited to adjudicate the Concerto/Aria Competition at University of New Mexico. Clarinet Professor Madelyn Moore also served as adjudicator at this event.

Arahata along with Sarah Neely, Director of the Lyric Theatre/Applied Voice, also collaborated with American Southwest Theatre Company at NMSU on its recent production of Mother Courage and Her Children.

Professor Rhonda Taylor, Saxophone/Music Theory, has recorded many solo and ensemble albums. Her latest solo album, Chaos Theory, was reviewed in online publication, The Free Jazz Collective. You can read that review here. Learn more about Professor Taylor and her other recordings here.
