The Music of Wayne Shorter

Both the NMSU Jazz Lab Band and Jazz Ensemble will be performing, featuring two amazing guest artists: Josh Carter and Abel Mireles on tenor saxophone. Wayne Shorter was one of the greatest saxophonists and jazz musicians of all time. In addition to an illustrious solo career, he played with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Miles Davis, and Weather Report to name a few. Besides being an excellent performer, he has a unique compositional voice and helped usher in the modern era of jazz harmony. He passed away this year at the age of 89, and we're paying tribute to him with a concert entirely of his music.
