The Southwest Honor Band at New Mexico State University is an international honor band festival that attracts students from throughout the United States and abroad. Over the past six years, this event has grown to include participation of over 400 students that participate in masterclasses, chamber ensembles, sectionals, and social events. The event also includes performances by the NMSU Wind Symphony, Desert Winds, and the Proud Pete Rock Band. Participating high school students also have opportunities to receive scholarships while participating in the event as well.

Participating students pay a small fee ($60.00) to participate. This fee helps to cover the costs of lodging and some meals while they are on campus. It also helps cover the cost of the Festival Fiesta and Senior Luncheon. Chaperones are provided by NMSU Bands schools and directors are encouraged to provide chaperones as well.
