Growing up on a walnut farm in Springfield, Ohio with “blue grass” and “gospel” music in her genes, Nancy Joy played horn, trumpet, cello, sang in the choir and had lead theater roles during her public school education.
She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Wittenberg University’s School of Music and a Master’s degree in Horn Performance at New Mexico State University and became the Horn professor at NMSU in 1996.
Nancy is principal horn of the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra and second horn of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and Opera Company. She has performed at various International Horn Society Symposiums; International Women’s Brass Conferences; South Africa’s National Horn Symposiums, the Brazilian National Horn Symposium and Spanish Brass Symposia. In addition to performing and teaching in Las Cruces, Nancy performs solos with various ensembles and gives music education clinics throughout the Southwest.
Nancy is currently the International Horn Society’s International Symposium Coordinator.
