Choirs

New Mexico State University provides students opportunities in and out of the classroom to grow as a singer and as a member of a larger community.  Our ensembles vary in time commitment and are open to university students from all majors.  All choirs at NMSU require a placement audition so that we may get you in the choir that best suits your abilities.  Whether you are a beginning singer or one with a wealth of experiences we welcome you to join us!

UNIVERSITY SINGERS

Dr. John Flanery, director

The University Singers is a select mixed ensemble of up to 30 singers performing music from all time periods and genres.  Most of its membership is derived from music majors with good sight-reading skills and some vocal training.  The University Singers performs many times each semester and travels twice each year.  The choir has toured internationally to Spain, Germany, Austria, England, and Italy.  The University Singers has also performed on three different occasions for the Southwestern Division of the American Choral Directors Association.  Scholarships are available on a competitive basis for this ensemble.

CONCERT CHOIR

Dr. John Flanery, director

Christa Frederickson, Graduate Assistant, director

The Concert Choir is an ensemble where many younger music majors and many non-music majors sing and participate.  Singers come from a variety of academic and music backgrounds.  The ensemble performs an eclectic folder of music exposing the singers to most musical time periods and diverse programming.  The ensemble meets just twice each week, which allows for more students to participate due to a smaller time commitment.  The Concert Choir performs in both fall and spring semesters.
